11 Essential Tools for Every DIY Homeowner

Utility Knife
A utility knife will be one of the first tools used after moving in your home. The knife will be helpful in breaking down boxes, removing caulk, cutting plastic tops off, and numerous of other tasks. If you don't have one, be sure to pick one up the first chance you get.
Hammer
A hammer should also be at the top of your list. It can be used to drive the nails in wood and walls. If you choose to put up pictures and other decorative items, you definitely need to own one. Measurement Tape

Power Drill

Keep an extension cord on hand to create an extra source for power. When your electronics can't reach the original socket an extension cord is nice to have around. Remember to never use indoor extension cords outdoors.
Adjustable Wrench
Most plumbing jobs under sinks and around toilets require the use of an adjustable wrench. The wrench has a movable jaw which allows for easy use with different sizes of fastener head nuts or bolts. A toolbox is just not complete unless you have one. You probably will not be able to get much plumbing done either.
Step Stool
A step stool is a necessity when it comes to those who are short in stature. Everyone has those hard to reach areas in their home these stools will simplify the process. There is so much pride in being able to reach a shelf that you normally would not be able to.
Hacksaw
A hacksaw is good for cutting through plastic, wood, and some piping. If you plan to be doing a lot of repairs and work on your own, you need a saw in your box. You never know what type of DIY projects it will make easier.
Screwdrivers
Screwdrivers are a must for doing tedious jobs such tightening doorknobs or light switches. Invest in a variety pack, and you will have your choice of screwdrivers to use.
